Our first Win at Premier 12 !! Going to Tokyo !!

Of course the World Series are over but of course that does not mean we have a World Champion yet (bring on the comments !). The World Championship has only just started in Taiwan with the finals being planned in Tokyo next week. The Netherlands, or Kingdom of the Netherlands as we seem to officially call ourselves in these baseball tournaments, won the first game 2 days ago beating Chinese Taipai by 7 to 4. This without key players like Gregorius, Profar, Schoop, Simmons, Bogaerts but with Andruw Jones. Would be great to see all these players play together at some point.

A few years ago we actually became World Champions so who knows what can happen this time around. Even better news is that I am visiting Tokyo for work next week and was able to be there on Saturday. The best news is that I got tickets to the final that day !!!! Let's hope the Kingdom of the Netherlands reaches the final and I can be part of history !

Anyways, before we get carried away here let's wait and see what happens in the coming days.

Any of you following the Premier 12 ? Any tips for good LCS in Tokyo ?

As every post needs a card, here's a Dutchie !!

  1. There are dozens of card shops in Tokyo alone. I know this because I lived in Japan for six years and I've barely been to half of them.
My recommendation is to check out the stores that are part of the Mint card shop chain. They've got stores in most of the more notable parts of Tokyo like Shibuya and Shinjuku. If you need more help I'd recommending checking out my friend Ryan's blog This Card Is Cool. He's showcased a few stores in Japan before and don't be afraid, these Japnese stores have quite a fair number of high end cards you pick up regularly.

  2. I agree with Kenny. There are PLENTY of options. Mint Ikebukuro has the best selection plus organization, and the Shibuya and Shinjuku locations also have good selections of higher-end cards. Where will you be working and staying (Tokyo is big with lots of mini-cities)?

  4. Sounds like you'll be in/near Roppongi, since that's where all of the embassies seem to be. There aren't any card shops right around there but Shinjuku and Shibuya shouldn't be too hard to get to. And Akihabara is pretty close - not really much baseball stuff there but it's Tokyo's most interesting neighborhood. And the kebab place called "Star Kebab" (about 5-10 minutes from the station) is my favorite in town. They have a small place where you can sit down inside; most other kebab places are just windows.

I don't know if you've been to Japan or tried Japanese food yet, but I'll go ahead and recommend that you eat sushi, ramen (many, many good inexpensive shops in town), gyudon (a bowl of rice with thin fatty beef strips on top) - I recommend Matsuya, and of course my favorite: curry from a restaurant chain called CoCoICHI.
