To Rip or not to Rip ?

Sadly enough, that question is not that relevant as my latest Rizzo addition has already been ripped. No, not by me, I just got it in the current state. Still, fun to own a rip card by Allen & Ginter and only 25 of these Rizzo's around. Have you guys ever owned a rip card before and did you rip it ?

Thanks for visiting my blog today !

  1. I don't like the "rip" idea, it ruins the outer card, which they apparently don't care about, so why serial number them?

I have a rip card from a few years ago that I have kept unripped. As long as I have it I will not rip it.

Card ripping in my book is like the GU concept. Destroying one piece of memorabilia to make another one. The concept has been brilliant though because "collectors" are spending way too much money on them and giving them ridiculous values.

    1. I agree that it's a shame that you ruin one (a bit) to get another one, but i do like the concept of unpacking it and see what kind of surprise you get !

  2. I completely disagree with CaptKirk42. Why would you not rip it? It doesn't ruin the card at all. It's still a card that only has 25 copies whether ripped or unripped.

The only reason to not rip is if you are selling it because unripped cards sell at a premium because some folks like taking the risk of ripping. If you already bought the card and plan to keep it, why not rip it and see what's inside?

    1. I would also rather rip them, just for fun ! To be honest, the front of the rizzo card still looks cool without any damage, the back is another story though :-)

  4. There was a basketball set called Topps Treasury that had one rip card per box. I bought three boxes way back and ripped the less popular and highest numbered one and found a mini-exclusive shaq. Nothing incredibly special, but still fun to try. I would only rip if I knew there was little demand for the outer player or if they were high numbered like that.

It's not a question for me. To sell or not to sell, that would be the question!

  6. I've never had an unripped RIP card. I'm not sure what I would do if I had one. Almost hope I never have to make that decision.

  7. I've pulled two rip cards. I ripped them both and only got the high numbered minis. I've purchase a number of Rangers Rip cards already ripped. They're pretty cheap that way.
