Stamps, Coins, I thought we were collecting baseball cards here ?!?!

A while back I showed everyone my first baseball card with a Stamp ! Sooner thereafter I found another "stamp" card. Well, if stamps were not interesting enough I recently found my first "coin" card, one of my favourite Dodger, Kerhsaw !!!! Apparently, this year's Heritage sets had a limited number of coin cards included, 1964 coins that is. Here's the Kershaw I was able to find !!

What do you guys think about these ? Should Topps continue to include these ?

  1. The diehard card collector in me says NO. The collector in me that says "heck there are people who collect both" says "Sure Why Not"? I do think though that the combinations are too random. Other than the fact that this years Heritage Honors the 1964 style Topps what does '64 have to do with anything?

  2. I think it's interesting but I liked it better when there was a linkage to the player. In previous years of Heritage, they matched up a penny to guys born in 1962, a nickel to guys who were rookies in 62, dime to all-stars and a half-dollar to guys voted into the HOF in 62.

  3. I also collect coins. If they started including pre-1965 dimes, quarters and halfs in cards, that could only increase their inherent value as those coins are 90% silver. There are a few silver nickels but you have to go back to the early 40's for those.

  4. Many many congratulations that you found your first coin and your stamps are also looking not bad.

  5. These are a little weird to me. I never collected coins (although my grandfather tried to get me started), so maybe that's why don't appreciate them much. But I can see why they'd interest coin collectors.

  7. I love them, depending on the player depicted. I think they are a neat insert/relic.

  9. I have a small coin collection. The problem with this card is a 1964 nickel is only worth 5 cents. You could find that in your pocket change. No big deal.
